Women in a Man's World
We are excited to welcome you for the second event in the series of Beneath The Surface. This is a collaboration event between three wonderful women’s networks - The Merit Club, Together Further and Lily Advisory, because we believe in collaboration over competition.
This time we will be delving into what it takes to be a woman in a man's world. The sacrifices you have to make in order to succeed.
We are very excited to welcome two wonderful speakers to share their stories with us. They come from two very different industries, yet both dominated by men: aviation and alcohol. We will be asking them to uncover the challenges they faced in order to live the lives they have now and what made their journeys a success.
Gabriella, founder of ConnectJets Ltd, has over 25 years’ experience in commercial and business aviation. In 2014, Gabriella was selected as mentor for Sir Richard Branson’s new Entrepreneurial Programme, Virgin Start Up, a not for profit Virgin Company for entrepreneurs. Charity work is close to her heart and ConnectJets has raised over £150,000 for the Children’s Hospice and Military Charities. RAF Odiham and Help for Heroes are key beneficiaries.
Amanda is CEO and Founder of Thomson & Scott; DIT Export Champion 2019, London Mayor’s International Growth Programme 2018, EY Winning Women 2017 and Le Cordon Bleu Entrepreneur of the Year 2017. Thomson is the creator of Skinny Champagne and Skinny Prosecco. She is leading the transparency in wine movement by creating a company that gives consumers as much detail as possible as to what's in their bottle. By example, Thomson & Scott produces top quality Champagne and Prosecco with as little intervention as possible in the production process and highlights its vegan and organic credentials, as well as sugar levels.
WHAT TO EXPECT
It’s so easy to see images of success, but it’s harder to know the full story. It often remains hidden 'beneath the surface' how much those we admire and think they have it all had to sacrifice and what real challenges they had to go through to get where they are now. We will explore questions around how the guests relationships have changed over time as a result. We will question if they can maintain a healthy work-life balance or if it is not even on the agenda anymore. As well as delve into exploring if this 'successful life' is what they thought it was going to be like before we started our businesses?
